The most famous painting of the theater is an allegory to the
two most important export products of the country, coffee and bananas. Aleardo Villa ( italian painter ) was
not very familiar with our country, so he made a few technical mistakes that
made the painting funny and unique. The bananas in the bunch are up side down.
The coffee plantations are painted at sea level, what is wrong. The coffee bushes
are too small and the women are typical shobby, very elegant nord italian ladies,
very different from our coffee pickers. The oxen have the yoke on their necks.
Imagine the poor oxen strangled by pulling all that weight. Normally the yoke
is tied up to the horns and head. Although he made some mistakes, it is a nice
painting and was chosen as a motif for our 5 colones bill. The bill is out of
circulation but it can be purchased outside as a collection item. |

The length of the tour is approximately of 4 hours. Once we recollect all passengers from the hotels we will start the horseback ride at a slow pace from La Fortuna town. We will horseback for 5 ½ kms ( 3.3 miles ) This will take us aprox. 1 ½ hours until we get to a point where we leave the horses at rest. During the journey you can enjoy the country side, excellent views of the Arenal Volcano, pasture land and agricultural fields. At the same time you will have the chance to see many different bird species like for example the Montezuma Oropendola, the American Swallow-tailed Kite and toucans. After this first horseback ride you will start a hike down on a very steep trail to the bottom of the waterfall, which is 70 meters high. This hike ( 0.3 miles ) requires a good physical condition on the way up.
At the base you will have a espectacular view and also there is a “natural pond” where you can swim in these fresh waters of La Fortuna river. La Fortuna Waterfall is located on the oriental flank of the Chato Hill. After this experience we will ride the horses again to get back to La Fortuna Town and from there we will take you by bus to the different hotels. ( no meals included )
In the Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna town area there is a price difference pricewise in all regular tours depending on the location of the different hotels in the zone. The hotels are divided into 3 zones where the tour will pick up the participants and each zone has a different price.

The minimum age to participate is 6 years old. To apply for a children rate from 6 to 11 years old, there must be a minimum of 2 adults participating with the child. |
