Three-toed Sloth! |
 |
The Brown-throated Three-toed sloth ( Bradypus variegatus ) is one of the most common mammal species in Costa Rica. Active by day or night, they feed on leaves, twigs, and buds. They give birth to a single baby after a gestation period of about six months. The young starts to eat leaves, in the form of fragments licked off the mother's lips, at the age of two weeks. After six months, the mother abruptly abandons it in the area which it was raised and moves to another part of her territory. The sloth's food preferences are greatly influenced by its mother. Does it sound familiar? |
