We will drive you through the unforgettable rainforest of the Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of the most important protected areas in Costa Rica. Upon arrival to the lowlands we will start a relaxing boat ride on the Sarapiqui River. Just sit back and observe the wildlife that is around you! Very often we see monkeys, sloths, iguanas, caimans and much more!
After this experience you will continue our tour with a hike into Selva Verde’s Eco Lodge private trails which is a heaven for nature lovers, hikers, bird and wildlife watchers. After a delicious lunch you will continue to the famous Rainforest Aerial Tram, a sanctuary which shelters an eco-touristic and research park like anyone in the world. Experience the rain forest as a bird could. Observe and learn about the richest and most complete ecosystem on Earth –the rainforest canopy. The Rain Forest Aerial Tram – Atlantic is a 475-hectares ( 1,200-acre ) private reserve that shares a 6 miles border with the Braulio Carrillo National Park and constitutes a buffer zone between the park and farming lands.
The tour runs daily, once a day during all the week. It starts early in the morning with pick ups in hotels in San Jose between 6:00 y 7:00 a.m. The return to San Jose will be between 6:00 y 7:00 p.m.
The Aerial Tram is a unique experience for nature lovers and one of the best ways to enjoy the rainforest. After long studies in the canopy ( upper part of the forest ), biologists have discovered that about 60% of the life in a rainforest is found in the canopy and this is something we do not see on a normal hike. The first person to write about epiphytes ( plants living on other plants but not in a parasitic manner ), was Columbus when he saw the diversity and richness of the Central American rainforests. Columbus noted our native trees as having different types of leaves within a single specimen, without realizing at the same time that he was among the first to see tropical epiphytes. The incredible amount of epiphytes in the canopy of this forest is due to the high amount of rainfall throughout the year. The tram ride is a fascinating way of observing and exploring very closely ( like a bird flight ) the hanging gardens of Central America, considered by many as one of the richest rainforests of our new world.
