El Silencio Lodge & Spa is immersed in Costa Rica’s
Central Volcanic Valley, flanked by two national parks, and ensconced in 500

International Airport (SJO). Access roads are paved and wind through picturesque

El Silencio Lodge & Spa offers 16 luxury suites. All accommodations
enjoy spectacular cloud forest views, a modern architectural style, warm ambiance,

features five unique pampering ambiances, including el Silencio's Conical Room,
a singular design structure with an apex that channels the energy of the surrounding

spa treatments.
DINING
El Silencio’s restaurant fuses Costa Rican traditions with inspired flare
and a savory international twist. Many ingredients are actually grown on the
premises in our own organic garden! Vegetarian options, free-range chicken,
and local fish are the main staple. For guests who wish to include red-meat
in their diet, complimentary vouchers for local dining are issued. Three daily
a-la-carte meals are included in the lodging rate.

views of the surrounding forest.

Esencia Spa features flowing water, whispering breeze, nourishing earth, and
the primal flicker of candles and torches. Pampering ambiances include the Conical
Room, a singular structure with an apex that channels the energy of the surrounding

El Silencio’s al fresco yoga deck is shrouded in thick vegetation and
trimmed by a gently flowing creek.
HIKING TRAILS & WATERFALLS
3.2 miles of easy to moderate trails meander past a pristine creek and hidden
waterfalls.
CONFERENCE ROOM
Adjacent to the restaurant’s coffee lounge. Features a 42” LCD screen
and DVD player. May be catered and can accommodate up to 30 participants (classroom
setting).
A personal Eco-Concierge guides travelers along spectacular
hiking trails, through the forest and past hidden waterfalls to discover exuberant
flora and wildlife… perhaps even the mystical Quetzal Bird. Nearby activities
include horseback riding, river rafting, mountain biking, and canopy zip-lining.
The sound of vibrant! The nearby town of Sarchí is home to the Costa
Rican oxcart. A national emblem, it reflects the country’s insertion in
the coffee world markets of the mid 1800s. Although rarely used today for transportation,
its intricate patterns remain a cultural legacy. The best oxcart artists still
create these masterpieces in Sarchís workshops and craft stores.

El Silencio Lodge & Spa fosters symbiosis and synergy among the hotel, its
neighboring communities, and surrounding ecosystem. Local purchasing and hiring
policies, environmental stewardship, and community development programs are
creating a healthy, welcoming, and authentic setting for caring visitors from
all over the globe.
• We have established a 500 acre private tropical cloud forest reserve
registered with the Costa Rican government’s CO2 offsetting program, FONAFIFO.
• Additionally, we are offsetting our yearly CO2 emissions through a bold
reforestation program that includes the voluntary participation of guests in
a complimentary tree-planting ceremony.
• 88% of our Hotel staff is local, including its General Manager.
• Purchase-local policies encourage micro entrepreneurs including furniture
makers, transport providers, trout and free-range chicken farmers, and cheese
producers.
• Development is limited to 16 suites to minimize density and ensure carrying
capacity.
• All facilities sit on stilts on above-ground platforms. Construction
did not entail topography modifications and emphasized environmentally-responsible
materials including bamboo tiles.
• Cleaning products are natural and planet-friendly, including vinegar
and sodium bicarbonate to clean windows.
• The restaurant and spa emphasize the use of local organic and fresh
products.
• Hiking trails have been designed by a naturalist guide, respecting the
terrain’s natural topography.
• Lighting has been limited to the hotel’s main facilities to avoid
disturbing the wildlife.
• Organic waste is composted and used to fertilize organic vegetable gardens.
Solid waste is sorted and sent to recycling centers.
• Bathrooms are outfitted with biodegradable bags.
• Naturally-flowing local spring water is filtered and treated with UV
light for general use and consumption.
• We do not offer or sell disposable water bottles. Multiple-use containers
can be refilled at taps and faucets available throughout the property.
• 100% of hotel’s water effluent is treated.
• Guests are encouraged to use water judiciously.
• Native species are used in landscaping. These are naturally watered
by the area’s normal rain levels, thereby eliminating the need for irrigation.
